50 and Still Under Peer Pressure?

Whoa and wow!  When is enough, enough.  I am going to not succumb to family peer pressure anymore. This includes husband, children, sibling and parents.  I have lived 1/2 my life for others and enough is enough. Being a Christian throws all kinds of guilt trips into this scenario. "Aren't you suppose to serve others?" "Deny yourself?" These are the ones that come to mind as I sit contemplating my decision to come in from the beach.

I got burned yesterday out reading and swimming at the beach.  You know how painful that can be. Well I got sunscreened up and wore shorts and t-shirt today so that I wouldn't burn in the same spots. However it was murderously hot and not having on a swimsuit, I couldn't cool off in the waves. So I decided to come back to the house.  One daughter awws at me for going inside.

I don't have all the answers, but I know one who does.

Do your children speak to adults with respect?

Do your children willingly help around the house?

Do your children respect other's property?

What has happened to child training?

Case in point!

During Christmas, my daughters were part of  a local Youth Theater production of, "A Christmas Carol."  As one daughter was the fiddler, we needed a fiddle.  My sister let us borrow hers.  Unfortunately I did not enforce the fact that it was my and my daughter's responsibility to take extra care of this borrowed violin.

Apparently some youth got hold of the violin and played with it.  The result: two string are off, the finish is scratched and who knows what else!  I was mad to say the least.

Mad that I didn't make sure my daughter realized our responsiblity enough to make sure it was well cared for.

Mad that someone to whom the violin didn't belong messed with it and messed it up.

Mad that the parents of this child hadn't trained their children to respect the property of others.

Mad that Americans today maybe are moving away from the basic laws of being good people.

Do I...?

Well, starting today, yes I do!  I am not the only important person in this world.  Other's are just as important and need to be treated as though they are!!!

"To live deliberately you have to think deliberately." Create the life you want to live in your mind - a script of how you want it to play out. You must tell yourself the story you want to live.

Whenever I realize I have thought wrongly on things in the past, I need to voice it to someone that has heard me speak of those things. Once it is brought into the light I can actively make a change in my thoughts.

Look for good around every corner.  At one point, I was looking for evil around every corner and therefore saw evil in many things (TV, music, clothing, people, etc.) Now instead of looking for evil I look for good around every corner.  Guess what, I see good around every corner.  Weird, but it does all depend on my perspective.
